Black Bear Hunting:

Ontario has the best Black Bear hunting in the world and where we are located, the southern side of Northwestern Ontario, is where the biggest bears can be harvested.

There are reasons for more bears and bigger bears.

Ontario Black Bear Hunting

1) We are located west of the Great Lakes thus the climate is a little dryer making conditions perfect for wild Blueberries and Strawberries to grow in vast quantities. This is a major staple of the Black Bear's diet and a source of vitamin C, which keeps them healthy and strong.

2) The second is our remote location. 95% of the human population in Ontario is east of the Great Lakes thus our area has vast amounts of pristine wilderness, which has remained unaffected by humans.

3) Being in the southern part of Northwestern Ontario means we have milder winters thus living conditions for both Black Bears and their main prey, Whitetail Deer, are easier and there is a much higher survival rate during the winter.

4) Our area of Ontario is a labyrinth of lakes and rivers thus there are hardly any roads thus making our location very remote. As a result hunting pressure is a fraction of what it is farther north in Ontario where there are main highways and way too many lodges.

5) Last, we only take a limited amount of hunters each year. Our conservation effort has really paid off. Our guests enjoy an extremely high success rate as well as huge trophy bears. Our hunting guests have the luxury to pass on smaller bears and wait for the big boars.

A true king of the forest, our Black Bears commonly reach over 400 lbs but are most common in the 225 to 350 lbs range. Occasionally a 600-pounder is harvested but a bear that big is approaching record size and very rare. Black Bears in our area are also available in rare color phases, which are referred to as Chocolate Black Bears, Cinnamon Black Bears and Brown Black Bears.

Our bear hunts are not for the faint of heart as our stands are within 30 yards from our baits, giving you a heart pounding close up. You will need all of your hunter skills to go after one of these trophy animals. Large boars become very smart and intelligent. With a nose that can smell food 5 miles away, these kings of the forest easily detect subtle changes in smell and abnormal sounds in their kitchen. So please sit still, take every precaution regarding your scent and be ready because at any moment that next trophy may walk your way.

Our BMA covers many square miles of prime Black Bear habitat. Our bait stands are located more than a mile apart and we start baiting weeks before the hunt giving our Black Bear hunting guests an unusually high success rate.
