Largemouth Bass Fishing:
When most people think of fishing in Ontario they don't think about fishing for Largemouth Bass. Down south Largemouth Bass are more common and they do have a longer growing season so generally they do get bigger but Ontario's lakes may surprise you. The Clearwater Lake/ Pipestone Lake chain of lakes has a really good population of Largemouth Bass and some can get really big. Since 98% of our guests come for other species, fishing pressure on the Largemouth is virtually zero.
Largemouth Bass fishing is never what it's like on television. Most times the people are fishing on a private reservoir stocked with millions of bass and they have the show edited to look like non-stop action with the purpose of selling fishing equipment. If you are like most people you have to fish public lakes where the lake is over-fished and most times the bass are spooked from all the boats and Seadoos buzzing around.

Just imagine being in a quiet weedy bay in the middle of the Ontario wilderness. You don't see any other boats and no one has fished that bay for weeks. The shoreline is nothing but towering pine trees with the odd fallen trunk making good bass cover. You cannot hear anything but loons and the odd bird. You are facing a bay that has a long hedge of wild rice leading into thick patches of Cabbage, Lilly Pads and Pickerel Weed. That bay is full of Largemouth Bass.
There is a big difference between going fishing and being on a fishing vacation. When you have access to hundreds of secluded bays all to yourself you will know you are on vacation.

Largemouth Bass in our lakes are usually in the 1 to 4 pound range. If you concentrate on Largemouth Bass fishing you should catch a couple in the 5 or 6-pound range during the week. There are bass in the 8 to 10 pound range in the lake but those are very rare anywhere in Ontario. You cannot expect to catch a Largemouth Bass that big but you are more than welcome to prove us wrong. Since our guests spend very little time fishing for Largemouth, we really do not know the lake's full potential. Mid afternoon Largemouth Bass fishing is a nice break from the morning Walleye fishing, especially if you are not interested in Pike or Muskie. You just have to move the boat a few feet away from the rocks and into the weeds and you are into good Largemouth Bass fishing.
